"We're doing very well, but shooting a music video is a lot of strenuous
work," Layzie Bone said in a phone interview from Atlanta.
Bone Thugs-n-Harmony will perform at 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Zone Nightclub,
209 S. El Paso.
Shooting a music video is lots of work, but it can also be fun for Layzie,
especially when he's surrounded by familiar faces such as Twista and Sean
"Diddy" Combs.
"It's like a family reunion," Layzie Bone said. "It's
awesome because it's going to be a star-studded video."
The Cleveland quartet -- Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, Bizzy Bone and Wish Bone
-- has sold more than 15 million records.
Layzie describes "Thug World Order" as an eclectic, in-depth,
spiritual album that runs through your veins."
One of the group's newer hits, "Get Up & Get It," features
R&B sensation 3LW.
Like several other Bone songs, "Get Up & Get It" will have
listeners striving to get the best out of their lives, regardless of how
bleak things may look, according to the band's official Web site.
"It's going to inspire everybody," Wish Bone wrote on www.bonethugsnharmony.com
. "If you are looking at yourself in a messed-up situation and you want
it to be better, if you listen to this song, it will motivate you to want to
do something."
The band has a new album in the works. It's due out in May or June.
Bone has had a turbulent career, marked by the death of mentor Eazy-E and a
highly publicized dispute with Ruthless Records.
"But we have remained positive and strong and we will continue to remain
positive and strong," Layzie Bone said.
It has been two years since the Grammy winners have performed in El Paso.
"Man, we love El Paso. We've put on some of our greatest shows in
Texas," Layzie Bone said.
Chris "Hate" Williams, co-promoter of the event, remembers when
Bone Thugs-n-Harmony sold out Club Vallare with a turnout of more than a
thousand people.
"They've actually performed here several times, and I remember two
sold-out shows," Williams said. "They were the ones who actually
wanted to come back and perform."
Williams said he is a fan of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. He loves the band's live
performance, including their mind-bending, hypersonic rapping and delicate
harmonies.
"Their music is just amazing, and their transitions are
incredible," he said. "They'll be singing fast and then they'll
switch to a slower beat."
For Williams, the band's music tells a story -- a rapper's story of
redemption.
"They began as four little ganged-out street kids in bandannas and now
their music has totally redeemed itself to become inspirational," he
said.
They were one of the first rap groups to win a Grammy -- they won the 1997
Grammy Award for Best Rap Duo or Group and the 1997 Soul Train Music Award
for Best Video for "Tha Crossroads."
"I think it's fantastic any time you have Grammy winners performing in
your city," Williams said.
