It's the video of a Merrill Lynch & Co. banker having a sexual encounter on a Spanish beach with an ex-girlfriend of Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo. The video showing MTV host Daniella Cicarelli, 27, a triathlete and model, with Renato Malzoni Filho, 33, a private banker at Merrill in Sao Paulo, has crashed computers on trading floors in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The topic dominates office and party chat more than the future of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is forecast to win a new term, said Brazilian gossip columnist Ricardo Boechat. ``This has become a sensation, and it's much more exciting than the election,'' Boechat said. ``In Brazil, people find it hard to resist anything with a rich, handsome young man and a gorgeous young woman.'' The video, shot by a paparazzo, appears in many versions, including some with soundtracks or subtitles. It begins with the couple kissing on a beach in the resort town of Tarifa on Spain's southern coast, then slowly moving away from sunbathers and surfers toward a more secluded spot. There the couple -- he in a green, tight Speedo-style swimming brief and she in a string bikini -- stand by the water's edge and engage in a range of sexual acts as they enter the ocean. `On Vacation' Calls to Malzoni at his office were directed to a company spokeswoman. ``Merrill Lynch doesn't comment on the personal lives of its employees, especially when they are on vacation,'' said Miriam Lage, a spokeswoman for Merrill Lynch in Brazil. Malzoni has worked for Merrill for more than five years, she said. Lage said Malzoni wouldn't comment as a Merrill employee. A call to Cicarelli at MTV Brasil was directed to spokesman Edgard Ribeiro, who said she declined to comment. Cicarelli was one of three presenters of Brazil's MTV Music Awards yesterday, her first public appearance since the sex video was released. On the live broadcast, she joked about the episode with fellow presenter Marcos Mion when he said that everyone in Brazil was talking about her video. ``I feel I have to ask you about it because that's all people are talking about these days,'' Mion said. Laughing, Cicarelli said, ``Okay, let's talk about it. But wait, aren't there more important things going on, like this music award and the presidential election on Sunday?'' Mion said her video, which debuted on the Internet two weeks ago, was obviously more important and the public deserved to know exactly what had happened on the beach. `What Really Mattered' ``You know, if people thought about what really mattered, they would take care of their own lives, and let me live mine,'' she said. A few awards and a couple of outfit changes later, Cicarelli, in a backless red gown, promoted a kissing session with the audience. ``Just take whoever is next to you and start kissing because kissing on the mouth is one of the best things in the world,'' she told the audience in Sao Paulo's Creditcard Hall. Malzoni and Cicarelli were granted an injunction Sept. 27 prohibiting the broadcast of the video by YouTube Inc.; Internet Group do Brasil; and Globo.com, the Internet content site of Organizacoes Globo, Latin America's largest media group, Judge Carlos Teixeira Leite Filho said. He issued the injunction because the Web sites didn't obtain permission from the couple. ``The video doesn't serve the public's interest and it doesn't respect the couple's privacy,'' the judge said in a phone interview. Some Web sites began blocking access to the video almost as quickly as users posted and reposted it. Calls to YouTube in San Mateo, California, weren't returned. GM Ad Carlos Augusto Souza, a spokesman for General Motors Corp.'s Brazil unit, said it was a coincidence that an advertising campaign featuring Cicarelli stopped running at the same time the video emerged on the Internet. GM's contract with Cicarelli ran from June to September, and the carmaker usually changes ad campaigns every four or five months, he said. ``GM would be very unwise to cancel their contract with her,'' said Boechat, the gossip columnist. ``I mean, nobody has ever considered her to be a nun. ``As for the boy, as long as the bank doesn't complain, who in their right mind is going to hold the fact that he has made love to a beautiful woman against him,'' he said. Ronaldo, who plays for Spain's Real Madrid club, and Cicarelli broke off their relationship in May 2005. Flavio Datz, a trader at AgoraSenior, Brazil's largest stock brokerage, whose office looks out over some of Rio's most beautiful beaches, said Brazilians love gossip and scandal but are reluctant to hold any of it against people. ``I don't think either of them have done anything wrong -- having sex on the beach is common,'' he said. ``At the same time, brother, everybody knows that you don't have any privacy on the beach.''
