UW girls bare it all (almost) for Playboy huge breasts
Once again, the UW has made a strong showing in the Pac-10 Conference -- a
strong showing of skin, that is.
Seven UW women made it into Playboy's annual October college issue, which
features women of the Pac-10 this year. Of all the schools in the Pac-10,
only Arizona State, which had 14 women in the pages of Playboy, had more
students in the magazine than the UW.
Only three UW students made the cut when Playboy ran its last Pac-10 issue in
1999, said Playboy publicity manager Theresa Hennessey.

Seven girls from the UW made this year's "Girls of the Pac-10"
special in Playboy magazine. Six are pictured--from left, Alexa Eileen,
Isabella James, Kate Bradshaw, Emily Chi, Carrie Rose, and Bianca Rose.
UW women appear in three pictures in the October issue. In one, five pose
on a balcony overlooking Lake Union with the Space Needle in the background.
There are also two solo shots.
All are topless huge breasts. The Playboy auditions and photo shoot
happened last April. Auditions were held at the Best Western University Tower
Hotel, and photos were shot at various locations around the city.
"Even when I went to the audition, I hadn't even considered getting
in," said Bianca Rose*, a senior in the nursing school. "I went in
my scrubs from the hospital."
The other women in the feature shared Rose's casual attitude toward the
experience. Most of them said they went to the auditions as a joke, or just
to see if they would get picked.
Carrie Rose,* who just graduated from the UW with degrees in law, society and
justice and sociology, said she plans to be a flight attendant on corporate
jets. She got a phone call from a friend who dared her to audition.
"I hadn't considered what would happen if I actually got it," she
said. "[But now] I would have regretted it more had I not done it."
None of the six women interviewed by The Daily had ever done professional
modeling or worked in the adult-entertainment industry previous to the Playboy
shoot.
"The actual shooting, you're like, 'Ow, ow, ow,'" said Isabella
James*, a junior majoring in history. "You have to arch your back, squeeze
your butt, suck in your stomach."
James, 21, recalled that photographers asked her to hold the same pose during
her solo shot for 20 minutes.
"It was a lot more boring than I had anticipated," she said.
"[There was] a lot of sitting, a lot of waiting for equipment."
"It wasn't provocative," said C. Rose.
When asked why they thought they were chosen, James said that
Playboy wanted "natural, cute college girls" representative of the
school.
"Not like, huge, big boobs," said Alexa Eileen*, a junior double
majoring in communications and political science.
Eileen, 20, was told by one of the Playboy staffers that they had turned down
one applicant because she had fake huge breasts and wasn't "natural
looking."
Since three of the women have Asian heritage, the women said they felt the
spread was a fair representation of the diversity at the UW.
Part of what made the experience comfortable for the women was the friendships
between them. Only Senior Emily Chi*, a senior majoring in political science and
English, wasn't connected to other women who did the shoot in some way.
"I thought it was more comforting ... because we [could] all do it
together," said B. Rose, 21, referring to the group shot. "Modesty
went out the window."
But all acknowledge there have been some difficulties because of the pictorial.
At a recent sporting event, B. Rose said she noticed people checking her out and
talking about her. James remembers being at a bar and having men do the same.
"You hear drunk guys, thinking they're being quiet," she said.
But C. Rose said she thought that men would talk and fantasize about her,
whether or not she appeared in a magazine.
"Guys are guys. They're going to do what they're going to do," she
said. "The most creepy thing would be, like, our dads looking at it."
C. Rose said her father had told her he would be "so proud" if she got
picked after the audition.
B. Rose, whose father appeared nude in an ad in the European edition of Playgirl
during the 1970s, said her father was proud as well. James, who is Jewish, was
the only one who said she had trouble with her parents. After The Seattle Times
ran an article about the shoot on Sept. 23, her mother "wasn't terribly
pleased about having to go to services that night."
Even though Playboy told the UW women they would be paid more to appear nude
below the waist, none opted to, although some women from the other schools --
like WSU and Arizona State -- did.
"It's a pretty classy picture," said Kate Bradshaw*, a junior majoring
in business, of the group photo she appeared in.
The women described the UW photos as "tamer" than those of the other
schools, and most of them said they would probably do it again. B. Rose pointed
out that her college years seemed like a good time to do something like this.
"We deserve a chance to let loose a little bit," she said.
*The names used for the UW students in the article are the same names they used
in the Playboy feature. The women chose aliases in order to protect their
privacy.
